Talented and Gifted Program

Elementary

Services for TAG students at the elementary level in Morrow County School District are provided at the student's school. The services provided are designed to meet their academic, intellectual, and social/emotional needs. The classroom teacher is the primary teacher responsible for meeting the student's academic and affective needs throughout the instructional program. It is the TAG coordinator's responsibility to work cooperatively with the classroom teacher to provide consultation and support to accomplish this task. With input from the parents, a written plan will be developed by the classroom teacher and TAG coordinator to outline how the child's needs will be met. It is the district's philosophy that the TAG student's needs should be met by acceleration according to their ability, by using differentiated curriculum and by using a variety of teaching and learning strategies. Although students will be identified as academically talented in reading or math and/or intellectually gifted, the written plan should consider their needs for adjusted levels or rate of learning in the major subject areas.

Middle School/High School Guiding Principles

The Talented and Gifted Services (TAG) at the middle/high school level in the Morrow County School District are school-based. The classroom teacher is primarily responsible for meeting the student's academic and affective needs throughout the instructional program. In accordance with the district philosophy, student needs are met by acceleration commensurate to ability, differentiation of curriculum, and variation of teaching and learning strategies. The primary purpose of providing services for TAG students at the middle and high levels is to offer an appropriate education to all students and to nurture individual potential. The District recognizes that, within this mode, special instruction is often needed for academically talented and intellectually gifted students. Since the classroom teachers at the middle and high school levels are primarily responsible for meeting the needs of gifted and talented students, the district provides support services, as well as staff development and training.
