November - Board Brief

Chair Becky Kindle called the regular meeting of the MCSD Board of Directors to order on Tuesday, November 15, 2016, at Windy River Elementary School in Boardman, OR.

Windy River Music Program – WRE has created a choir and band program.  Mr. Dunlap, music teacher at RJSHS comes over during his last class period of the day to teach at WRE.  The program helps to prepare kids for junior high band/choir programs.  With a recently received Wildhorse grant of $20,000 and $5,000 from WRE, instruments will be repaired, new instruments will be purchased as well as new risers.

The Consent agenda was approved.

Superintendent’s Report

District Newsletter -  The newsletter will be coming out soon and one of the focus topics will be Standard Safety Response Protocol.

CTE - Revitalization Program - ODE will visit the district to see how we have utilized funds and the upgrades that have been made. 

CARE TEAM - Crystal Romero has recently been hired as part of the CARE Team.   She is employed by the ESD and will work in Morrow County.

Inclement Weather - Inclement weather notifications are ready and will come out in a variety of ways - district website, media, School Messenger, news/radio and school websites.

Athletic Recognition - Riverside girls’ soccer lost out in the 1st round of state; their boys team made it to the semi-finals, losing to the team that won the state title. Heppner football plays at noon Saturday in the semi-finals at Liberty HS in Hillsboro.

OSBA Convention – Many of the presentations were aligned to our efforts as a district. 

Unfinished Business: 

OSBA Convention – Becky, Brian, Thad and Dirk all reflected on their time spent at the OSBA Convention held in Portland, November 10-13, 2016. 

New Business:

OSBA Elections – The Board unanimously agreed to vote for Scott Rogers from Athena Weston to serve on the OSBA Board of Directors. 

OSBA Legislative Priorities – The Board adopted the OSBA Resolution – Legislative Priorities for 2017/18. 

ODE Fair Dismissal Board – The Board discussed the opening on the ODE Fair Dismissal Board.     

Irrigon City Council – IJSHS Senior, Marlina Avila-Serratos was recently elected to serve on the Irrigon City Council.
